Mena Pownall
I moved to Sonning when I was just 18 months old and consider myself extremely fortunate to have been brought up in such a beautiful and friendly village.
I have fond memories of many community events over the years such as the annual Scouts sports days on the recreation ground and celebrations for the Queens Silver Jubilee in 1977.
I recall when Sonning bridge and the High street accommodated 2-way traffic, and the Sonning Club (formally Sonning Working Men’s Club) was a popular social venue and you had to attend a formal interview for membership.
Many things have changed over the years, but overall the village continues to be a lovely environment to raise a family and my own three children have in turn built up precious memories of their own.
I now work at Sonning CE School and still enjoy attending village events. I joined the Parish Council in 2011 so that I could give back to the community which has meant so much to me.
